Advanced Search Help: Searching for a Limited Company

Search Fields

There are three possible search fields - company name, registered number or parent company registered number. You can only search using one of these fields at a time.

Company Name - By selecting this field it is possible to search a registered company name against the Companies House register. The inclusion or exclusion of dissolved or name change matches can be selected by clicking on the relevant box at the bottom of the screen. In entering a search spaces, punctuation and common stop words (Group, Ltd, PLC) are ignored.
Registered Number - Searching by registered number will display an exact match as all companies have a unique registration number. The search field is eight characters in length. Where a company number has preceding zeros, Juniper will automatically search for an eight digit number. For example, registration number 01800000 can be entered as 1800000. However, Companies House alpha pre-fixes, such as SC for Scottish companies, must be entered.

Parent Company Registered Number - This field identifies all subsidiaries of the company whose registered number is entered. It will retrieve results from both the holding company number and the ultimate holding company number. As in the registered number field, leading zeros need not be entered.

Check Boxes

The following check boxes allow you to more closely specify the companies you are interested in.

Include Dissolved Companies - When searching by company name, the search automatically searches live companies on the database. However it is possible to include dissolved companies as well, by selecting the Include Dissolved box. This will then return with all live and dissolved matches relating to the company name search. This option is only available when searching by company name. Include

Previous Names - In order to ensure that you identify companies who have previously operated under the company name you are searching, select Include Previous Names. This search option is only available when searching by company name.

Exact Name Match - If you know the exact name of a company use the Exact Name Match option for more precise matching and speedier retrieval. When using this option you should enter all parts of the name - e.g. Mirror Group PLC or Bass Holdings Ltd. with spaces between words to retrieve only the required company.

Non-Limited Businesses - Checking this box will make the system search the non-limited database for the company name you are looking for as well as the Limited company database. Please note that this is only relevant when searching by company name.

England, Scotland & Wales - The search screen will default to searching for companies in England, Scotland & Wales for all customers based in Britain. A check will appear in the England, Scotland & Wales search box so that any name search undertaken will include companies registered in England, Scotland & Wales.

Northern Ireland - to include Companies based in Northern Ireland in your search select the Northern Ireland selection box. Once a check appears in the box, any company name search undertaken will include companies registered in Northern Ireland.

Republic of Ireland - to include companies based in the Republic of Ireland in your search select the Republic of Ireland selection box. Once a check appears in the box, any company name search undertaken will include companies registered in the Republic of Ireland.

Help: Searching for a Non-Limited Business

Search Fields

You can search for unincorporated businesses by business name or unincorporated business number. You can additionally use the post code and telephone code fields in conjunction with business name to further specify your search criteria.

Non-Limited Business Name - By selecting this field it is possible to search for a Non-Limited Business Name. You may ignore spaces and punctuation although we advise using them.
Business Number - Searching by this number will display an exact match as all businesses have been assigned a unique number by our database. The search field is nine characters in length.

Search Boxes

Name or Number - Type the business name you want to search for in this box.

Check Boxes

There is only one check box on this screen to help you with your search :-

Exact Name Match - Exact name match will truncate a business name entry, so that only the alpha characters entered are searched. For example, if you were searching a business name such as Telecom, entering telecom as your business name could potentially result in a very long list of matches. The word telecom is a very common word and added to this Juniper will naturally return businesses with the words telecommunications and telecoms as well. In order to isolate your search to telecom only, select the exact name match. This option is only available when searching by business name.

Please note: You may need to include any/all spaces between words or letters and all punctuation such as &. If the search fails without you having entered any spaces then try it with spaces. For example KCS Welding & Maintenance Co has to be entered as "K C S Welding & Maintenance Co" with spaces between the k, c and s.

Help: Director Search

This search screen provides full access to a directors database listing all directors of UK companies, obtained from Companies House in the UK.

In order to access the data it is necessary to enter in a surname. The initial or first name of a director and a date of birth can be used to refine the search. If the identity of one of the directorships is known, it should also be entered, to narrow the search to the specific individual still further. For example, Mr Christopher Evans, born 1/4/1966 of Ginger company should be entered as follows :-
Wildcard
There is a tick box available if you wish to search with a wildcard. When selected it will search the name entered with any extension. For example:- William - a wildcard search would also pick up Williams and Williamson; a useful search aid if you are unsure of the exact surname.
